Please join us in congratulating the winners and thanking all art contest participants who braved a cold, rainy June day to attend the Philippine-American Foundation for Charities, Inc. (PAFC) sponsored Philippine Independence Festival and created their own interpretation of “Celebrating America’s Many Cultures”. Thanks to PAFC, who provided the art tent for this annual contest; special thanks to the artists of the community who once again sponsored the award prizes for each of the recipients; and a huge debt of gratitude to the FYP members who braved the weather and shielded the children from the elements as they created their masterpieces this year.
This coming Saturday, August 18th from 8:00 – 9:00 p.m. at American Legion Post 139 in Arlington, Virginia the 2007 award recipients will have an exhibit of their award winning work; an opportunity to meet their sponsor; and a very special treat, a concert by the Rod Garcia band to begin upon the conclusion of the Children’s Award ceremony. You and your family are invited to join us for this free event. The American Legion Post 139 is located at 3445 Washington Boulevard in Arlington, Virginia. To view the work, please visit both the FYP website, http://www.fypdc.org/ and DC Pinoy site, http://www.dcpinoy.com/ where the judging was conducted online this year.

TUTUBI SPONSORSHIP LETTER
Each year, during the Philippine Fair and Parade, the Philippine-American Foundation for Charities, Inc., provides a tent for an art contest for all children attending the fair. The winning entries entitle the children to a cash award, a certificate of merit, and the first opportunity for these budding artists to exhibit their work and receive public recognition for their accomplishments. Tutubi Productions has organized and conducted this contest for the past 7 years and with the help of the Filipino Young Professionals for the past 2 years we have actively sought ways to enhance this self-sustaining program and offer the children MORE. This year, with the assistance of the Filipino Young Professionals we were able to provide MORE one-on-one interaction with each child. FYP appeared in large numbers to assist with the distribution of materials to the children; offer a frame of reference that was age appropriate for the children to understand the best way to interpret the theme; help with seating and materials sharing; and listen to the child’s interpretation of their work upon completion and submittal of their artwork. We had an extra challenge this year with the torrential rains and chilly temperatures, but FYP helped shield the children from the elements and some beautiful work was created as the children felt supported and encouraged. FYP took their task of providing MORE to a new height by establishing an anonymous method of judging the art work by photographing the works individually and posting them online for voting. The judgment was based on how well the children interpreted the theme, “CELEBRATING AMERICA’S MANY CULTURES”. While that was MORE then we have ever been able to provide the children previously, there is still MORE we can do to enhance their experience and that is why we are appealing to you. As artists (and we are using the term to convey not only visual art, but music; dance; writing; singing; fencing; intricate bead work; and creative expression) we would like you to consider sponsoring one of the children’s awards in one of the three age categories. Since you have already expressed an interest in sponsoring a child this year we would like you to sponsor Camille Baechler (10 years old) who won first place ($50.00) in her age category. Camille's work is very well executed, but the thought that went into her preparation and her writing on the back of the art work about freedom made us think of the mentoring opportunity possibilities if she were to meet both of you. When you present Camille the award money and certificate, she will also receive your bios (provided by you) emphasizing your creative work as well as your continued community involvement. You will also receive a print of Camille’s work that won the prize you are sponsoring. Our concept of matching artists who are also role models in the community with budding artists is meant to foster creative expression as a life long practice. It will allow both of you an opportunity to support a program that encourages artistic expression and supports inclusive community involvement for all age groups. All of the children's art work was on display at Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial library with your work, but the display Saturday, August 18th at the American Legion Post will display only the award winning work. We would be honored if you would consider sponsoring Camille's prize money and helping us to make Saturday evening all about expanding our artistic community out reach. The brief program will begin at 8:00 p.m. and our focus is on displaying the art work; introducing the children and their families to their sponsors and distributing award checks, certificates and sponsor bios. You will be so proud of the parents and their ability to instill pride and a sense of freedom of expression in their children. We want this to be all about the children. Following the awards ceremony, we have a very special treat the Rod Garcia band will entertain us. As this contest is endorsed by the Philippine-American Foundation for Charities, Inc., your prize award check should be made payable to PAFC. We will provide a letter to accompany your check that specifically lists the intended purpose of your donation to underwrite award money for the Children’s Art Contest for record keeping purposes for PAFC. PAFC has agreed to have the checks available to distribute on the 18th and all they need is your sponsorship donation to support this self-sustaining program. We look forward to your quick response and would appreciate receiving your updated bios we can share with the Camille and her family.Your friends,Julian and Linda, Tutubi Productions
